Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Jimmy Sanderson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Clemson University and is Director of the Sports Communication BA Program. He maintains an active research agenda that explores the influence of social media in sports with a focus on sports media, organizations, identity, and social/parasocial interaction. He also conducts research that explores health and safety issues in sports. His research has appeared in outlets such as Communication and Sport, International Journal of Sport Communication, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Mass Communication and Society, Southern Communication Journal, and Western Journal of Communication. He is also the author of It's A Whole New Ballgame: How Social Media is Changing Sports published by Hampton Press. He is the chair of the International Association for Communication and Sport. Dr. Sanderson also is featured in the media regularly about social media issues in sport, and speaks to groups such as the National Federation of High School Associations and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics. Prior to joining Clemson, Dr. Sanderson worked in Human Resources Management in the non-profit sector for 11 years.
