Chris, in conjunction with another professor from the University of South Carolina Upstate, initiated a selffunded research project regarding faculty and student perceptions with regard to academic integrity in distance education courses. Surveys were e-mailed to faculty and students at three universities, and 1900 were completed. Data from the 82-question survey were compiled over the summer, and the first of a series of papers, “Succumbing to Temptation – To Cheat or Not to Cheat? Faculty and Student Perceptions of Academic Integrity in Distance Education Courses,” was accepted for publication and presentation at E-Learn 2010 (October 18-22, 2010), a world conference on e-learning in corporate, government, health care and higher education. The acceptance rate for papers was a competitive 18 percent, and there were about 100 paper presentations per day for five days. Conference attendees came from all over the world including South Korea, Norway, Italy, Australia, Turkey, Japan, Thailand, UK, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Mexico, Canada and the USA. Travel funds were provided by a grant received from the AAH College Faculty Research Development Program. Subsequent papers and presentations are planned from this research effort over the next two years.
Chris was also elected vice-president of the Greenville, S.C., NAWIC chapter for 2010-2011. She and Emma Campbell presented “What is NEF?” at the NAWIC’s Regional Annual Planning Conference held October 22-23, 2010, in Greenville, S.C. In addition, Chris and a several Sigma Lambda Chi members (Peter Sheridan, Appling Wells, Justin Burgess) served as judges for NAWIC’s annual Block Kids competition (January 2010) involving 75 children in grades one through six at Taylors Elementary School, Taylors, S.C.
In addition to professional service, Chris serves on the AAH Curriculum Committee, the CSM Tenure, Promotion and Review (TPR) committee and is faculty adviser for the department’s Sigma Lambda Chi chapter. She reviewed four papers for the Associated Schools of Construction Journal and Proceedings. Her teaching responsibilities include scheduling, project management, capstone and one of the estimating classes.
