Professor Andrew is a specialist in Southern history. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in both the antebellum and new South periods, with particular emphasis on the New South. Dr. Andrew’s first book, Long Gray Lines: The Southern Military School Tradition (2001), explains the rise of military schools in the antebellum South and their continuing appeal after the Civil War; he is currently at work on a biography of Wade Hampton. He is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Selected Publications
