Professor Marks is a specialist in Russian history, and teaches courses in that area as well as economic history and historiography. He has received awards for both teaching and research, most recently, the AAH Dean’s Award for Research Accomplishments in 2003. His newest book, How Russia Shaped the Modern World (2003), explores the influences of Russian ideas on Western and world culture; his first book, Road to Power (1991), was a study of the Trans-Siberian railroad. He came to Clemson in 1988.
