Professional Advisory Board

Lee III

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Landscape Architecture Professional Advisory Board [DoLA-PAB] is to provide a source of advice and counsel to the Chair and department faculty on matters relating to the direction, health, and future of the Department of Landscape Architecture.

1. The group's primary purpose will be to provide a regular means of external assessment and advice for the Department of Landscape Architecture. Additionally, the group will provide a means of better bridging practice and education, connecting professionals to students and vice versa; and would provide an alternative means of support (not necessarily financial) for the Department. While the primary objective is supportive, there is the potential that the board could within three years transform and branch out as an advancement board that includes fund-raising.

2. The Board will meet 2-3 times/year, during which they will interact with students (two meetings will be scheduled in coordination with end of the semester design reviews and/or desk crits; the third meeting could take the form of a conference call during the summer, as needed); interact with faculty; and have a meeting when they will be asked to discuss issues that are vital to the Department, e.g. Curricular proposals, LAAB accreditation, etc.

3. The membership of the board will be invited by the Chair of the Department to serve on either 2-year or 3-year rotating terms, (except for the ASLA SC President, who would have a one-year term).

4. The board will have approximately 12 to15 members and represent diversity (geographic, career, ethnicity, educational, and age) of the board. Members will not all need to be Clemson alumni; nor should all members be landscape architects.

5. Members will be self-supporting in their trips to Clemson. The Department will cover some expenses for meals, receptions, etc. students, and faculty, during meetings.
