The German Section at Clemson University can help students going abroad and we offer a number of Clemson programs. We can also advise you on and inform you about other opportunities.

All German major have to go abroad, and we encourage every study with some German language background to take the opportunity.

We recommend to always go a full year, combine this with an internship and a good preparation, this will make your international experience outstanding!

See our Study Abroad and Internship Abroad opportunities. We can also advise you on possible scholarships, though limited.

German Students Abroad:

Here is what some of our students have to say about their experiences:

"An exercise in independence. Immersion in a foreign culture. A chance to practice those German skills you've been training for years. A time you'll never forget; spent in a place you'll always carry fond memories of; with people with whom you may lose contact, but with whom you'll share some barely credible stories. The study abroad experience could be simultaneously described as all of the above and more." (Allison Kaplan)

"I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend my last semester abroad, but now I couldn't imagine having chosen any differently. . . . The international department organized everything from social dinners to ski trips making it easy for us (the exchange students) to see as much of Bavaria, and Germany in general as we would care to. Now that I'm here... I'm not sure I ever want to go back!" (Eric Rose)

"There's a lot more than academics to be learned when studying abroad.  For me, it was a huge personal challenge, which I've beaten far beyond my expectations.  I learned more about myself and grew more as a person in a few months in Germany than I had in my previous two years at college."
