Artist Satement:
The Three Ages of Man
The installation in this stairwell is based on the classical concept of The Three Ages of Man, as developed within my personal interests in this state's textile industry. Childhood on the first floor gives way to adult working life on the second (along with an appreciation for our transience on this earth). The third floor is self-reflective, with the realization that, what we became later in life was already being formed in our younger days.
Text and imagery, except where noted (the first floor nursery rhymes which are attributed to 'anonymous', 'traditional' and Robert Louis Stevenson, the second floor Psalm 102, and the third floor poem by William Wordsworth) are by Phil Moody. The project was completed under the Clemson Art Partnership Project, through the Department of Art and the School of Education.
