Admissions Requirements
The following credentials are preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• GPA of 3.0 or better
• Scores of 500/500/4.0 or better on the GRE (verbal/quantitative/writing)
• Strong writing skills demonstrated through a writing sample and resume
• Focused reasons for pursuing the MAPC degree
Priority for admission and assistantship funding will be given to applicants who apply by February 1. University fellowship nominations are typically due in January. However, funding will continue to be awarded as long as it is available. You may begin the program in fall or spring semester, though we recommend beginning in the fall.
Financial Support
You will automatically be considered for a graduate assistantship when you apply to MAPC. In the first year, most MAPC students either teach the one-credit lab course that accompanies our first-year composition course or work in the Multimedia Authoring Teaching and Research Facility (MATRF) writing, designing, and editing print or electronic publications. After completing 18 hours of courses, students have the opportunity to teach our first-year composition course. Stipends begin at $10,000 for the first year and $12,500 for the second. Graduate assistants are also eligible for summer support (typically $1,500), and all graduate assistants receive reduced tuition.
We normally begin awarding assistantships in early February. However, assistantships, fellowships, and other forms of support can be awarded until the semester begins. For information about loans and other forms of financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 864-656-2280.
