All student users of the MATRF are required to pay a $35 registration fee per semester before they are allowed to access the facility during open hours. This includes students who have class in the facility. Payments can be made to Grace Ammons in the English Department office in 801 Strode Tower during normal business hours. Students eligible to become users of the facility include: CAAH undergraduate and graduate students, or any student currently enrolled in a course being taught in the MATRF.
The only exceptions to the registration fee are:
(1) English Department TA's whose fees are underwritten by the English Department
(2) CAAH faculty whose fees are underwritten by the Dean's office.
Payment of the registration fee entitles students to access the facility during open hours and to use certain facility resources, including the laser printer. Registered users may also check out digital video cameras, digital still cameras, digital audio recording equipment, etc. (See Resources for more information). The $35 fee is based on the fact that it costs approximately $0.10 per page to print on the laser printer and on the assumption that a student will print an average of 350 pages over the course of the semester. Since the facility is not funded by the University computer-use fees, this registration fee is necessary to cover some of the costs of operation. The registration fees are used to purchase consumables like paper and toner, replace and repair equipment, upgrade software, and maintain insurance for checkout items, etc.
