Clients collaborate with the facility director and Master of Arts in Professional Communication (MAPC) students who work in the facility. The collaboration generally follows these steps:
1. A prospective client contacts Dr. Howard, the MATRF director.
2. The client provides an outline of his or her project needs.
3. The facility director and the client meet to discuss in detail how the MATRF can meet the client’s needs.
4. The facility director and the client develop a timeline for the creation of project deliverables.
5. The facility director drafts and provides to the client a statement of understanding via e-mail. The statement of understanding outlines the deliverables, timeline, and cost estimate.

6. The client agrees to or edits the statement of understanding as needed and provides approval to start the project in writing.
