Shima teaches the Structures courses, CSM 201 and CSM 202, and CSM 498-Current Topics in Construction at the undergraduate level and CSM 852-Construction Management Research and CSM 889-Special Problem at the graduate level. With help from industry representatives and trade associations, Shima organized and taught a one-week-long construction summer camp for rising 11th and 12th graders. With help from industry representatives and CSM faculty, she prepared two student teams to compete in the 2010 ASC/AGC Region II Student Competitions, which took place on October 20-22, 2010 in Birmingham, Ala. She coached four CSM students and two ARCH students to compete in the Design- Build competition and co-coached six CSM students to compete in the Commercial competition. The Design- Build team won first place. In terms of research, Shima was awarded a grant to study the design-build project delivery method for state-funded and DOT projects. In terms of service, the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region II presented Shima with an outstanding service award for her service as Region II Director from 2006 to 2010. One of her responsibilities in this position was to work with Alabama AGC to organize and host the 2010 ASC/AGC Region II Conference and Student Competitions.
