Melanie Duffey. Phd, Clemson University 2014

melanie duffeyMelanie Duffey has a background in design and planning, and holds a Bachelor degree in Interior Design and a Masters of Community Planning (M.C.P) both from Auburn University. She started the program in Fall 2011, with an interest to pursue interdisciplinary studies. Melanie is broadly interested in urban public space, place, and the human response to the built environment. More specifically, she has been interested in the physical changes and regulations occurring in urban public spaces and its impact on democracy. Her past professional experience includes working as a designer in the disciplines of architecture and urban design, and lecturing and teaching design studios at Auburn University.

Niraj Poudel. Phd, Clemson University 2014

Niraj PoudelNiraj Poudel has a background in Physics and Architectural Engineering. Niraj completed his bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from Whittier College, California in 2006. He then traveled to Milan, Italy where he completed his Masters of science degree in Architectural Engineering from Politecnico Di Milano, Milan in 2009. Niraj is deeply passionate about the environment and in particular about the energy consumption within the building sector. His interests lay in energy simulations of buildings and more importantly the use of emerging technologies that help counter energy consumption while simultaneously provide for better thermal comfort. Currently he is working towards developing design guidelines for Architects and Engineers to implement Phase Change Materials within the built environment. Aside from academics, Niraj enjoys swimming, yoga, playing the guitar and hiking the hills of South Carolina.
