In addition to being a full time MRED student, 2nd year Martin Sarkees spends his time away from the classroom as a coach for the Clemson University Women's Rugby Club.
Hometown: Originally from Media, PA, I now live in Clemson, SC.
First semester at Clemson: Fall 2011
What other universities have you attended? Drexel University, Temple University
Why did you choose the MRED program at Clemson? Great campus, excellent multi-disciplinary program.
What advice/thoughts would you give to prospective MRED students about the program? If you are not already proficient, learn how to use Excel and a financial calculator.
Describe your summer internship with the MRED program and what you learned from that experience. My summer internship was extremely beneficial. I worked in a few different areas of real estate. I worked for a local residential developer in a project manager role. I also worked for a local brokerage firm performing Argus analyses for commercial properties for sale. Lastly, I assisted an Atlanta investor performing Argus analyses for industrial properties.
Tell us something interesting about yourself or your background. Along with coaching rugby, I also help coach the Clemson Elementary Chess Team. I love to waterski and wakeboard. Warm weather in Clemson allows me to start in March and end in October – no need for a wetsuit!
What types of on-campus activities (student organizations, research, jobs, volunteer opportunities) are/were you involved in? CURESA, Clemson Women’s Rugby and Omicron Delta Kappa.
What has been your favorite MRED experience/memory and why? There’s been a few – ULI and Maymester are great experiences. The coolest was my first Clemson football game. As an MRED student we get season tickets.
Favorite book/newspaper/journal you like to read? Pretty much a regular viewer of Squawk Box in the AM and cnbc.com the rest of the day.
What are your plans/goals after graduation? I’d like to stay in the Clemson area and continue my career in real estate.
