Mr. Terwilliger is chairman emeritus of Trammell Crow Residential Company. He is an honor graduate of the United States Naval Academy and received his MBA degree with high distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Business, where he was elected a Baker Scholar. He is past chairman of the Urban Land Institute and remains a trustee. Additionally, he is chairman emeritus of the Wharton Real Estate Center, past chairman of the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership and chairman of the board of directors for the I Have a Dream Foundation.
Terwilliger is the past chairman of the international board of directors of Habitat for Humanity, an ex-officio member of the board and chairman of Habitat’s $4 billion global capital campaign.
Philanthropically, Terwilliger founded the ULI Terwilliger Center for Workforce Housing. A gift to the Enterprise Foundation has created the Enterprise Terwilliger Fund — targeted to create 2,000 affordable homes annually. His legacy gift to Habitat for Humanity International will help 60,000 families access improved housing conditions.
Terwilliger has been recognized with many awards for his philanthropy and efforts to improve housing opportunities for all Americans. In 2009, he was honored by the National Housing Council with the Person of the Year Award for his commitment and contributions to the affordable housing community. He also was honored in 2009 by the United States Naval Academy as a Distinguished Graduate for his lifetime commitment to service, personal character and distinguished contributions to the nation.
