The arrival of the Urban Land Institute’s November/December 2012 issue of Urban Land® brought exciting news. It featured the Clemson University MRED program as one of the evolving programs drawing attention in a special article on “University Real Estate Programs Today”. The article cited the program’s “impressive range of courses and opportunities to study development in action”. To emphasize this point, the article also included several photographs of our students in Denver at the 2012 fall meeting and mentioned the popular coastal development tour during Minimester by Dr. Farris and the Charlotte and Columbia development tours. This article speaks volumes about the evolution of our program and why it attracts national exposure. For example, the Clemson MRED program is still the only program that takes all of its students to the ULI fall meeting each year and no other program offers a 12-day coastal development tour. These are signature events that make us stand out – a national program with a geographic location in a dynamic region of the country.
Speaking of geographic locations, the design and planning of our program’s space in the soon-to-be-completed ONE building in downtown Greenville is rapidly progressing. The Clemson MRED program will join the MBA, Master of Marketing and other graduate business programs in downtown Greenville in the fall of 2013. With just over 66,000 square feet in ONE, we will be part of dramatic yet tasteful space in ONE that will showcase academic professionalism and innovative teaching technologies. As MRED alumni Adam Russ (’11) so aptly put it upon hearing the news, our relocation is a “game changer”. It is also one more reason that Urban Land was so accurate with its statement that Clemson is an evolving program drawing attention. It is a great time to be affiliated with the Clemson MRED program.
