Dr. Elaine Worzala

Dr. Elaine Worzala

Dr. Elaine Worzala is the Director of the Center for Real Estate Development and a Professor of Real Estate in the College of Architecture Arts and Humanities at Clemson University. Before joining Clemson University, she was a Professor and the Director of the Accelerated Masters of Science in Real Estate in the Edward St. John Department of Real Estate at the Carey Business School within Johns Hopkins University. She has also served as the MSRE Director and the Research Director at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego and she began her academic career in the Finance Department at Colorado State University. She has also been a Visiting Professor with the Real Estate Center at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Worzala has taught numerous different real estate courses including introductory real estate, real estate valuations, real estate feasibility, real estate finance and investments and a graduate level real estate investments case course.   In addition, she was the interim Assistant Provost for USD in the 2004/05 academic year.

Elaine holds a Ph.D. in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics (1992) and an MS in Real Estate Appraisal and Investment Analysis (1984) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  An active member of several academic associations, Dr. Worzala has served as the President of both the American Real Estate Society and the International Real Estate Society and is currently serving as a board member for both organizations.  Dr. Worzala has completed research grants for the RICS, the ICSC, PREA and RERI in the last few years and believes strongly in bringing relevancy to her classroom from her research projects.  She has published articles in many of the mainstream real estate academic journals as well as industry-based publications and other media.  She is a frequent reviewer of academic work and sits on the editorial boards of many of the real estate academic and industry based journals.  Her research interests are applied and lie primarily in institutional real estate investment, valuation and education.  Additionally, many of her studies take on an international perspective as she works to open up the borders as they relate to real estate markets.

In 2000, Dr. Worzala was awarded the IRES Achievement Award that recognized her outstanding achievement in real estate research education and practice at an international level.  She was also awarded the Bert Kruijt Service Award for outstanding service to IRES.  Dr. Worzala has also received numerous awards for her research.  In January 2005, she was initiated as a Fellow in the Weimer School that is part of a real estate think tank devoted to expanding the knowledge of real estate educators. In 2006, she was initiated into Lambda Alpha International, became a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors as an exemplary member, and was invited to become the first woman Distinguished Fellow of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties (NAIOP).  She is currently serving on the Mid-Atlantic Board of the RICS-Americas, on the advisory board of the Real Estate Research Institute, on the RICS-Americas Sustainability Council and on the Diversity Task Force at NAIOP.  She is also a member of the Pension Real Estate Association and the Urban Land Institute.
