AREAS OF INTEREST
I am researching Lepidopteran feeding behavior by examining the
proboscis at a structural and functional level. Specifically, I am
investigating the proboscises of Monarchs (Danaus plexippus
) which are primarily nectar feeders and Red-spotted Purples (Limenitis arthemis
which are primarily sap, rotting fruit and dung feeders to determine
whether there are fluid uptake capabilities in multiple locations on the
