What is CEFPACK?
The Clemson University Center for Flexible Packaging (CEFPACK) is a membership organization which offers testing and development services related to flexible packaging. CEFPACK is designed to perform research projects and packaging evaluations for industry consumer product companies and packaging suppliers, and also provides a wonderful educational environment for Clemson students.
What does CEFPACK do?
CEFPACK laboratories provide a broad range of capabilities, such as: filmmaking, lamination and pouch making, filling, thermal processing of packages and sensory analysis. Combined with the department’s ISTA-Certified Sonoco Transport Package Testing Laboratory, the Cryovac Flavormark Retort Laboratory, The Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, and the DuPont “Miracles of Science” Laboratory, members are offered an entire range of services, from materials evaluation through testing of filled packages, to training and equipment demonstrations, all in one location.
CEFPACK has a two-fold mission:
- Research: Projects are focused on developing, evaluating, and understanding new flexible packages. Additional projects produce films, laminates, and packages for biopolymer and active packaging research.
- Service: A broad range of support services are available to industry, including preparation of films, laminates, and packages; and thermal analysis and identification of materials and structures.
