Bacterial Transformation

Description of the Activity

Students learn the fundamentals of gene expression by transforming E. coli to incorporate the genes to produce green fluorescent protein (GFP).  The GFP genes are inserted using recombinant plasmids.  After incubation, the transformed culture will be compared to the control to test for the ability to produce glow in the dark colonies.
