In this laboratory students will learn about Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the mitochondrial genome. Students will have the opportunity to amplify a piece of their own mitochondrial DNA by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The product will be used as a template for DNA sample sequencing. The finished sequences will then be used as part of a bioinformatics investigation.
