Bachelor of Science in Genetics

Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry

The Department of Genetics and Biochemistry offers the B.S. degree in Genetics or Biochemistry and is one of the most popular (and successful) majors for students seeking admission to medical or graduate school.  In fact, almost all of the undergraduates in our department go on to graduate or professional schools.  Students majoring in genetics and biochemistry take a variety of courses in the sciences (e.g. general, organic, quantitative and physical chemistry, physics, and introductory biology) which prepare them for further study.  GEN/BIOCHEM 491 provide opportunities for students to carry out independent research projects under the guidance of Clemson faculty mentors.  Students learn the latest cutting edge methodologies in biochemical and genetic research while improving observation and communication skills. In addition, faculty mentors receive the opportunity to share excitement about their work with an enthusiastic undergraduate.  With the combination of a state-of-the-art curriculum, world renowned research mentors, and superior research and teaching facilities, the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson provides the foundation for future researchers and professionals in a variety of scientific fields.

Every student is valued as part of the Clemson family, and as an individual. Faculty meet every semester with each individual student to discuss curriculum and career goals.

The Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson offers the advantages of both a large major research university and the personal attention, and collegial environment of a small private institution; a recipe for personal development and future success.
