2014 - 2015 Results

January 31st, 2015 - Hunt Seat Show at GA Southern

The Clemson University Hunt Seat Equestrian Team rode in its spring semester opener at the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 show on January 31, 2015 hosted by Georgia Southern University Equestrian Team at Evermore Farm. Clemson University’s Equestrian Team fielded 14 students in hunt seat classes ranging from class 1, beginner walk trot, through class 8, Open Equitation Over Fences. The team, led by coach Jamie Grant, finished a close 3rd, only 3 points from the Reserve Champion title, in a field of 11 universities. Hannah Stephens, a sophomore in Animal and Veterinary Sciences – Equine Business, was Champion High Point rider, winning her Intermediate Equitation Over Fences class and placing second in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat. With as many as 13 per section, and some divisions had multiple sections per class, the competition this year continues to be large and competitive. Clemson University is holding strong to our 3rd place in the region overall. Clemson University students brought home 13 individual ribbons.

January 24th & 25th, 2015 - Western Show at Lander University

The Clemson Univeristy Western Equestrian Team rode in four shows at the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 shows held January 24-25 hosted by Lander University at the Burton Center in Greenwood, SC.  Clemson University’s Equestrian Team fielded 18 students in western classes ranging from class 11, beginner walk jog, through class 16, Open Reining.  Clemson  students brought home 69 individual ribbons over the four shows held at Lander. The team, led by coach Rebecca Shirley, continues their winning streak for the region, winning high point team at all four shows! Additionally, Clemson University Equestrian Team riders won the individual high point and reserve honors for all shows.  Several riders pointed up to a new division, assuring them a ride at the Regional competition on February 22nd to be held at the T. Ed Garrison arena hosted by Clemson University.  There is one more regular season show to be hosted by Clemson University on February 21st

November 9, 2014 - Western Show at Clemson Univeristy 

The Clemson University Western Equestrian Team rode in their season opener double header at the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 show on November 9, 2014 hosted by Clemson University at the CU Equine Center. Clemson University’s Equestrian Team fielded 19 students in western classes ranging from class 11, beginner walk jog, through class 16, Open Reining. The team, led by coach Rebecca Shirley, continues their winning streak for the region, winning high point team at both shows.  In the first show, the CUET team had a perfect score, with point riders winning every class!  Additionally, Clemson University Equestrian Team riders won the individual high point and reserve honors for both shows. Rebekah Strunk was named High Point Rider for both shows, and John Roof won Reserve High Point in the first show and tied for Reserve High Point with Shealy Melton, who pointed up into the Open division for the second show.  Several students who are new to the team or were debuting their first show in a new division had very strong finishes, including class wins. Clemson University students brought home 40 individual class wins over the two shows

September 27th, 2014 - Hunt Seat Show at GA Southern

The Clemson University Hunt Seat Equestrian Team had its season opener at the IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 show on September 27, 2014 hosted by Georgia Southern University Equestrian Team at Evermore Farm. Clemson University’s Equestrian Team fielded 15 students in hunt seat classes ranging from class 1, beginner walk trot, through class 8, Open Equitation Over Fences. The team, led by coach Jamie Grant, had its strongest start in recent history and finished Reserve Champion Team, in a field of 10 universities.

Courtney Schintzius, a junior in Animal and Veterinary Sciences, tied for Reserve Champion High Point rider, winning her Intermediate Equitation Over Fences class and placing third in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat. With as many as 11 per section, and some divisions had multiple sections per class, the competition this year is large and competitive. Clemson University students brought home 16 individual class wins.

Western Semi-Finals Championship - Held March 29 & 30, 2014 at St. Andrews College in NC

The Western CUET team fielded students in both individual and team competition

Hunter Team Zone (Regional Championship) - Held April 5, 2014 at Berry College in GA 

Four individual riders rode to try to earn a spot to Nationals.  There are more Zone competitions all around the country, so riders must win 1st or 2nd to move on as an individual.  This is the first time in a long while that CU has fielded this many riders at Hunter Zones (if not the most riders ever), and they held their own.
