Student Employment Frequently Asked Questions

Just Do WIT is a mantra that we have adopted in our department. It means “Just Do Whatever It Takes.” This mantra applies to our philosophy when providing satisfaction to our clients and making sure that we do whatever it takes to ensure that their events go smoothly. It is also applies to our commitment to the development of our student employees and making sure that our departments provides them the necessary skills to be the best employees not only in Clemson but in other places as well.

  1. The student must first submit an application and all of the necessary identification documents (CU ID, Driver’s license, and signed Social Security card). If the student is interested in Regular Scheduled jobs, they must also submit a class schedule and resume. Note: We do not permit the submission of passports or other identification items in the place of a social security card.

  2. The students will be entered into Vencidi, where they will need to sign up for a call to show their intent to work in our department. A student manager will request to hire them in Vencidi and our Coordinator of Payroll and Hiring will be prompted to hire them. Note: All applicants in our department are added to Vencidi and will be hired for Event jobs as a part of their hiring process. If a student is interested in Regular Scheduled jobs, a formal interview will have to be set up by the area supervisor.

  3. The student will then receive an email from HR explaining how to setup their direct deposit information. Note: Unless the student has received this email, they will not be able to set up their direct deposit.

  4. The student will need to sign up for and attend an Employee Orientation session. Note: Participation in an Employee Orientation workshop is mandatory in order to be eligible for employment in our department. New hires have to attend Employee Orientation within TWO months of getting hired.

* The student will also have to attend an area specific training for each area that they work in.

The starting rate for student employees in our department is $7.50.

Event jobs are jobs that are staffed based on the needs of events in our venues. These hours vary and are based on the student’s availability. Regular Scheduled jobs are jobs that have regularly scheduled hours each week. Steady hours in these jobs are guaranteed.

It depends on the type of job you work in our department. If you work event jobs, the hours vary, so relying on this job for consistent and regular pay, wouldn’t be wise. For Venue operations, those jobs provide a set schedule for each week, so there would be opportunity there to gain consistency and reliable income.

A purple CA&E polo will be distributed to you for you to wear during your shifts. Event employees are required to wear khakis and closed toe shoes with their polo. Venue operations employees are allowed to wear solid color bottoms and closed toe shoes with their polo. In special circumstances, our dress code is adjusted for the particular job being worked and that information is sent out by a student manager.
