Spring Break Safety Tips

When preparing for Spring Break Travel please consider the following:

  1. TRUST YOUR INSTICT. IF SOMETHING DOESN’T SEEM RIGHT OR SEEMS SUSPICIOUS, REPORT IT TO POLICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
  2. DO NOT GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION SUCH AS PHONE NUMBERS, EMAIL ADDRESS, RESIDENCE INFORMATION, ETC. TO PERSONS YOU DO NOT KNOW AND TRUST.
  3. CARRY MINIMUM INFORMATION ON YOU WHEN TRAVELING. USE MINIMUM AMMOUNT OF CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS AND NEVER CARRY YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER WITH YOU.
  4. KEEP ALL PERSONAL ITEMS WITH YOU OR IN YOUR SIGHT AT ALL TIMES SUCH AS CELL PHONES, LAPTOP COMPUTERS, PURSES, ETC.
  5. IF YOU THINK YOU ARE BEING FOLLOWED PROCEED TO A WELL POPULATED LOCATION THAT IS WELL LIT. CALL LOCAL POLICE IMMEDIATELY.
  6. IF TRAVELING BY CAR MAKE SURE YOUR VEHICLE IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. CHECK TIRE PRESSURE, FLUID LEVELS, AND KEEP AT LEAST ONE HALF TANK OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE.
  7. DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN THE PASSENGER AREA OF YOUR VEHICLE.
  8. KEEP A MAP OR GPS UNIT IN YOUR VEHCILE ALONG WITH A FLASHLIGHT, WHISTLE, AND BLANKET.
  9. KEEP YOUR CELL PHONE CHARGED.
  10. DO NOT ADVERTISE YOUR TRAVEL DESTINATION ON SOCIAL WEBSITES OR STATE THAT YOU WILL BE GONE FROM YOUR RESIDENCE.
  11. IF TRAVELING BY AIR MARK YOUR BAGS WITH A RIBBON OR EASILY IDENTIFIABLE MARKER.
  12. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING IN AIRPORTS OR CROWDED VENUES IT MAY BE HELPFUL TO PLACE YOUR WALLET IN YOUR FRONT POCKET AND CARRY PURSES IN FRONT OF YOU WITH BOTH HANDS. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR WALLET ON TOP OF YOUR PURSE.
  13. LET A CLOSE FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER KNOW YOUR WHEREABOUTS AT ALL TIMES.
  14. CALL SOMEONE YOU KNOW AND TRUST BEFORE YOU LEAVE AND WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATIONS.
  15. WALK IN GROUPS AND REMEMBER SAFETY IN NUMBERS. DO NOT GO OUT ALONE.
  16. NEVER ACCEPT DRINKS FROM PERSONS YOU DO NOT KNOW OR TRUST.
  17. MAKE YOUR SAFETY ON YOUR TRIP YOUR FIRST PRIORITY.
