If you would like to take care of your traffic/criminal ticket prior to your court date, please bring or mail your fine payment, in the form of cash, check or money order, to the Municipal Court Office, located at G01C Edgar Brown Union on Clemson University's campus.
You are not required to appear for your court date for all charges. If you do not wish to appear on your scheduled date and time, you will need to (1) pay the ticket prior to your court date, (2) ask for a continuance or jury trial or (3) enroll in an intervention program and bring proof of enrollment into the court office prior to your court date. If you do not appear or complete any of those options prior to your scheduled court date, you will be tried in your absence and are subject to having your driver's license suspended (if you are facing a traffic charge) or having a bench warrant issued for your arrest (if you are facing a criminal charge).
If you would like to request a continuance on your case prior to your court date, call the Court Clerk at 864-656-5258 with a valid reason. Cases will not be continued due to a conflict with class schedules since our court dates are always on Wednesdays and always at the same time. Proof of your illness (doctor's excuse) or death of a close relative (death certificate) will be required to continue a case for those reasons.
For intervention program enrollment information, visit the intervention program page.
If you missed your court date for a traffic charge, you may have been tried in your absence and found guilty. If you were assessed a fine and do not pay immediately, the process of suspending your license will begin.
If you missed your court date for a criminal charge, you may have been tried in your absence and found guilty. If you were assessed a fine and do not pay immediately, a bench warrant will be issued for your arrest.
If you do not take care of your charge prior to your court date, you must attend your scheduled court date and bring with you your fine payment in the form of cash, check or money order.
If your ticket is regarding no driver's license in possession, lack of proof of insurance, etc. be sure to bring the valid proof with you on your court date to present to the officer.
