Office of Web Services

Our Services

OWS offers several levels of support to campus Web content managers as part of its mission to give visitors to Clemson University Web sites an accurate and positive representation of students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Campuswide Services

For all Clemson University sites, OWS agrees to:

  1. Work with CCIT to resolve any server issues.
  2. Evaluate existing sites to determine eligibility for Cascade Server, the University’s Web content management system.
  3. Provide internal assets such as templates and common scripts.
  4. Assist with Section 508 accessibility compliance.
  5. Provide a catalog of Web-ready Clemson University images.
  6. Monitor for any online misuse of Clemson University logos and trademarks, as set in policy by the Board of Trustees.

Cascade Server Services

The Office of Web Services (OWS) offers three ways to brand your site and bring it into the University's Web content management system, Cascade Server. In addition to the above responsibilities, OWS also commits to the following levels of support based on these packages.

OPTION 1

OWS works with the client to organize Web site content and structure. OWS will build and maintain the client's site in this option, making updates — in predetermined timeframes — when the client requests.

OPTION 2

Client can request to work with OWS to organize their site's content structure. The client will then build and maintain the site. OWS will provide support with Cascade "how-to" issues, but not in-depth support for web development "how-tos."

OPTION 3

OWS works with the client and client's RUO to organize content and structure. OWS will then build the site and turn it over to the client's RUO, who will maintain and support the client's Web site.

For sites built and maintained by OWS, OWS agrees to:

  1. Organize and build the site based upon an approved site map.
  2. Make updates to the site — in predetermined timeframes — at the client's request.

For sites built and maintained in Cascade by the client, OWS agrees to:

  1. Provide Cascade Server training.
  2. Resolve issues with OWS-provided assets such as templates, css and scripts.
  3. Resolve issues regarding Cascade Server.
  4. Ensure news articles and events are available for page feeds.
  5. Create user accounts and groups for Cascade Server (limited numbers might apply, depending on the site's size).
  6. Provide, upon request and approval, assets that have been developed for sites built by OWS.

For sites built by OWS, but maintained by the client and the client's RUO, OWS agrees to:

  1. Provide Cascade Server training if desired.
  2. Resolve issues with OWS-provided assets such as templates, css and scripts.
  3. Resolve issues regarding Cascade Server.
  4. Ensure news articles and events are available for page feeds.
  5. Work with Top-Level RUO's to ensure understanding of how to manage assets and work with contributors and publishers.
  6. Create user accounts and groups for Cascade Server (limited numbers might apply, depending on the site's size).
  7. Develop scripts, ssi, etc. upon request from client and approval from OWS.

Note: OWS is not responsible for troubleshooting issues that arise from unapproved editing of OWS-provided assets, providing individual Cascade training at the contributor level after the appropriate managers have been trained, or developing and/or supporting special projects within Cascade unless approved by OWS. Clients interested in Cascade training should contact Terri Vaughan or (864) 986-0608.
