Year: Senior
Major: English WPS and German
Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA
Role at EMpower: Student Intern

About four years ago, this Yankee somehow tumbled down from Steeler Nation and plopped herself right in the middle of Tiger Town. During my final fall semester at Clemson, I will be primarily spending my time on building on the DID YOU KNOW? campaign that Meagan developed in the summer and focusing on involving off-campus apartment managers in our EMpower program.

Student Intern: In my role with EMpower, I will be devoting most of my time to the CU Late Night Spring Event which is a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament to promote safe and healthy behavior.  I will also be working as the "organizer" of the office so all of our staff members will know the progress of each project going on throughout the semester.  I am excited to be working with such a great team!

Major: Health Science
Hometown: Albany, GA
Role at EMpower: Student Intern

Now entering the final stretch of my undergraduate career, I plan to give back to the community of Clemson through EMpower.  My projects include managing and organizing EMpower’s annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament to increase social interaction and fun activities on campus between on and off campus students.  Secondly, I chair a subcommittee that targets drug use and abuse, more specifically marijuana.  With an increase in marijuana use on campus, this committee strives to increase awareness of marijuana, decrease arrest rates, and lower the prevalence of marijuana use.

My role at EMpower as a Student Intern this semester is specifically focusing on maintaining and improving our Think Ahead Campaign.  The primary goal of Think Ahead is to reduce the amount of students who drive under the influence of alcohol.  In doing so, we are meeting with many locals, such as bar owners, who have great insight on the issues of alcohol-related accidents.  Consequently, we are emphasizing the underage sector of students to ensure that they know these dangers as well.   The main goal is to create new and fun ways to get our word out.  We want our marketing scheme to appeal to the majority of the student body.  Our number one goal is to ensure the safety of the Clemson community.

My sophomore year I worked with EMpower, establishing relationships with law enforcement that later developed into the “Did You Know” off-campus campaign. I also sat in on the Clemson Community Coalition last spring.  This fall I am working on the furthering the development “Think Ahead” project as well as establishing relationships with bar owners and managers; finding out what Empower can do for them.
