University Housing

Wireless Installation

We've been listening! Because of your feedback, CCIT and University Housing will embark on a project to improve student life by providing wireless access in all the residential areas by the end of the 2009 fall semester.

You will be able to access the Internet and campus network within your residence hall room or apartment without plugging in to the existing network wall port. This will also allow you to connect in locations not serviced by the existing wired network such as the laundry room. Project implementation will be coordinated with University Housing and the Residential Facilities staff. Progress reports will be available through a Residential Area Wireless Project Web site.

The project is scheduled to be completed prior to the beginning of the fall 2009 semester and will provide wireless connectivity within all campus residence hall rooms and apartments, the common areas and laundry rooms. Outdoor (green space) and stairwells within the residence halls will not be within the scope of this project.

Please note that:

  • Wireless network access will require 802.11AG/WPA2 enterprise compatibility. Recommended laptops purchased since 2005 meet this criteria. Laptops that do not meet the 802.11AG/WPA2 enterprise technical standards will still be able to access the internet through wired connectivity.
  • University Housing and Clemson University IT policies prohibit the use of personally owned networking equipment (ex. wireless access points, routers, switches or hubs) within residential areas. If you have a device, it must be removed immediately. Gaming consoles are not considered networking equipment.
  • If you have questions about wireless network access, please contact IT Support, 656-3494.

Clemson continues to improve its IT infrastructure to ensure the success of our students. Thanks for your feedback and patience as we complete this important project.
