Clemson University’s Living-Learning Communities provide a holistic approach to student development and learning through academic partnerships, service-learning opportunities and research initiatives. Each community is uniquely designed to facilitate meaningful connections between peers and among students, faculty and staff. With 19 different communities, and more in development, we seek to provide all of our students the opportunity to experience a seamless learning environment in our residential areas.

This Living-Learning Community is primarily for freshman and new transfer students classified as freshman who are members of Air Force ROTC. However, the LLC is open to all AFROTC students. For more information on this program, contact Lt. Col. Michael Giebner at 864-656-3673.
The Army ROTC Living-Learning Community is for incoming freshman and sophomore students to support and enhance the leadership skills and academic potential for a future 2LT in the United States Army. The coaching and mentoring that will occur in the program will encourage Cadets for success in physical training, leadership and academics.
More than 250 Honors students, from freshmen to seniors, live together in Holmes Hall, one of the University’s coeducational suite-style residence halls. University Housing and the Calhoun Honors College collaborate to offer residents a series of programs and opportunities specially tailored to the interests and needs of academically high performing student leaders. An energetic and dedicated Faculty-in-Residence lives in the Honors community and engages in unique and meaningful interactions with residents.
The mission of the Call Me MISTER® (acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) Initiative is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background particularly among the State's lowest performing elementary schools. Student participants are largely selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.
The Civics and Service House is a Living-Learning Community open to all majors. It is specifically designed for academically talented, civically-engaged, and service-oriented students who are seeking opportunities to enhance their undergraduate experience.
The Clemson Business Experience (CBE) is a Living-Learning Community for freshman business and economic students whose primary goal is to develop positive relationships and promote academic and professional success. Students in CBE program participate in educational and extracurricular activities that are applicable to their educational and career goals through workshops, business tours, community service and social events, faculty dinners, study groups, and access to upper class CBBS peer advisors and mentors. Academic advisor are available each week in the resident hall to help students with questions or concerns that students may have.
The Clemson Behavioral Science Experience (CBSE) is a Living-Learning Community for entering freshman sociology, psychology and political science majors. The program is designed to enhance and ensure a successful first year at Clemson University while adding to the students’ college experience. Through the Living-Learning program, students are able to create lasting relationships, and experience opportunities applicable to their educational and career goals. Through workshops, tours, community service, and other opportunities students are equipped with the tools necessary to be successful both at Clemson and in future endeavors. Students live together in a residence hall where Academic advisors are available on a weekly basis to provide students with the extra attention needed to help ease the transition and adjustment from high school.
The CUDC Living Learning Community brings together upper-class students from a variety of design majors including: Architecture, Art, Graphic Communications, Landscape Architecture, Packaging Science, Production Studies, and Theatre. CUDC aims to connect student designers because design creativity and collaboration are vital ingredients for advancing healthy, sustainable, and inspiring communities. Members of CUDC have opportunities to travel on design-related field trips as well as opportunities to apply their skills to on-campus design challenges. Most-significantly, participants enjoy daily out-of-class connections with other student designers as well as access to invested faculty mentors.
The CONNECTIONS Peer Mentoring Program is a student organization in addition to being a Living-Learning Community. Through CONNECTIONS, freshmen students from culturally diverse backgrounds are paired with an upper class student mentor that will provide support for them in various aspects throughout their first year at Clemson University. CONNECTIONS also provides an array of programing for members to socialize and learn about the resources available to them on campus. Programming includes the CONNECT Success Series (which directly links the mentees with faculty and staff to promote academic success and retention), retreats, cultural excursions, and semester events (planned by the executive board).
The Cultural Exchange Community (CEC) provides an International Living-Learning Community experience on campus where International students live with American students in campus apartments. CEC offers students an opportunity to learn about and explore each other's culture in an engaging environment. With special programs and connections to the broader international community on campus, it provides a wealth of opportunities to connect with people from all over the world. This community is open to all students who have an interest in learning about other cultures and/or studying abroad opportunities.
Through involvement in the FIRST Living and Learning community (LLC), first-generation college students will strengthen skills for academic success and build relationships with students, faculty and staff dedicated to assisting them in having a successful transition to Clemson University. The FIRST LLC provides a structured living environment that is designed to promote success amount first time freshmen students whose parents do not have a 4 year college degree. Participating students will be offered additional support in the form of study sessions and tutoring in the residence hall, educational workshops facilitated by faculty and staff members, and will be matched with a successful first-generation student mentor to guide them through their first year.
The First Year Experience Program (FYE) at Clemson University enhances the greater missions of the Division of Student Affairs and the University through intentional and collaborative student-centered services and programs. The FYE program serves as a catalyst for campus resources, services and opportunities that promote the self-knowledge, leadership development, social responsibility and life skills awareness and application for our first-year students.
The College of Health, Education and Human Development (HEHD) Scholar-Leaders Living Learning Community provides first-year Health Science, Education, Nursing and Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management students an opportunity to gain educational experiences outside of the classroom with students in their majors. It was designed for a select group of freshmen who exhibit the potential to be outstanding leaders and scholars within HEHD majors. With that goal in mind, this community will have opportunities to implement a variety of activities that will allow students to work closely with the College's Administration and community leaders on Clemson's campus and beyond. Community activities will be designed around the final Scholar-Leaders participants' interests at the start of each semester. Professional Golf Management students are welcome to apply but there is a separate living learning community specifically for them housed separately.
Clemson University’s LEAF Living-Learning Community provides a residential experience based on the concept of sustainability. Participants, representing Clemson's diverse student body, will learn how principles of economic, social, and environmental sustainability apply in contexts ranging from personal lifestyle choices, to the structure of the built environment, to the operation of public and private institutions. This community is open to all students who strive to be leaders, innovators, and responsible global citizens. Participants will also develop and practice skills to act as agents of change in the University and broader community.
The Professional Golf Management (PGM) Living-Learning Community at Clemson University provides a unique educational background for students who desire to become PGA professionals. Students obtain specialized knowledge and preparation to be leaders in the expanding golf industry. Our goal is to encourage a sense of community among our students that will enhance and encourage their academic experience. Students will create relationships that they will carry with them, not only throughout their time here at Clemson, but also throughout their careers. The PGM community is open to incoming freshmen who are enrolled in the Professional Golf Management program.
The RiSE (Residents in Science and Engineering) Program is a unique first-year Living-Learning Community for learning and student success. This program combines the residential and academic aspects of college life and is intended to enhance students' academic experience and ease their transition into college by providing a support system of individuals with similar interests and majors. Students in the RiSE program participate in educational and extracurricular activities that are applicable to their coursework and have access to tutoring in their residential area. The RiSE community is open to incoming freshmen in the College of Engineering & Science (Engineering; Chemistry; Computer Information Systems; Computer Science; Geology; Mathematical Science; & Physics).
Residents in the Sophomore Year Experience (SYE) will develop relationships through individualized contact intentional programming. SYE residents will participate in activities that enhance academic success and engagement while discerning a major and career, and foster a commitment to Clemson University’s core values of Integrity, Honesty, and Respect in community. The SYE will achieve these goals through collaborations with faculty, staff, and community resources, based on the needs and assets of the community. An energetic and dedicated Faculty-in-Residence lives in the SYE community and engages in unique and meaningful interactions with residents of the SYE community.
TIGER Den is a collaborative educational and residential Living-Learning Community that supports new transfer students in their transition to Clemson University. TIGER Den offers both educational and social programming specific to the unique needs of new transfer students, including promoting academic success, connecting new transfer students to the academic and social resources at Clemson, and enhancing their academic and social integration into the Clemson community. TIGER Den is open to all new transfer students.
The Wellness Living-Learning Community is designed to connect students to resources on campus that promote health and wellness, including mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. This community is open to all students.
This is a freshman Living-Learning Community for women majoring in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. It provides a unique mentor and team building experience designed to strengthen the academic success of women in animal sciences.
WISER is a Living-Learning Community designed to help and support women engineering and science majors by providing resources such as programming, mentoring, networking, tutoring, and test banks.
