Smoke from wildfires in the region will continue to cause unhealthy air quality conditions until the fires are extinguished. The National Weather Service has advised that the fires may continue to burn for several days and that smoke in the air will persist depending on weather conditions. The American Lung Association has issued general health advice for people living in areas impacted by smoke and have provided specific recommendations for people with increased health risks due to asthma or other lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases or diabetes. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Control (DHEC) has issued a statement here.
