ProfileCaptain Norris assumed his position as the Assistant Professional Military Science Instructor for Clemson University Fightin’ Tiger Battalion on 01 March, 2013, following a tour of duty as a Battery Commander at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He graduated South Carolina State University in the summer of 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and was commissioned as a second lieutenant on Active Duty for the Field Artillery branch. Captain Norris’ first assignment was in Headquarters and Headquarter Battery, 1-7 Field Artillery Battalion, Ledward Barracks, Schweinfurt, Germany as a Fire Support Officer while attached to Charlie, 1-77th Armor Battalion for 12 months. Captain Norris changed position and became the COLT Platoon Leader; deployed for 15 months to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He redeployed and became an Executive Officer / Battalion Ammunition Officer. He deployed a second time as an Assistant S3 (Operation / Planning Officer), redeployed, and ended his 4 ½ year duty assignment in Germany. Captain Norris conducted a permanent change of station and was assigned to the Field Artillery’s Captain Career Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for shy of eight months and remained for his follow on assignment. Captain Norris then became the Assistant S3 under HHB, 2-18th Field Artillery Regiment and assisted with the Operation for 10 short months. CPT Norris had the privilege of Commanding Charlie Battery and Bravo Battery under the guidon of 2-18th FAR; and later deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a Highly Mobile Artillery Rocket System (HiMARS) Battery Commander. CPT Norris was assigned to Clemson University after his command. Captain Norris is married to the former A’Lores Cornelius from Kingstree, SC and they have three children (Kelly Jr., Titus, and Idris).
