The Department of Sociology and Anthropology strives to provide individualized advising to all of its students. We meet each semester with students to help them plan for registration, to review their degree progress and to ensure that both required courses and particular areas of student interest are addressed. Students are required to meet in person with their faculty advisers prior to receiving their registration codes. Because of our frequent meetings with students, students and faculty advisers develop lasting and enjoyable personal and professional relationships. Faculty advisers also mentor advisees, assist them with graduate school searches and write recommendations to accompany graduate school applications. All sociology and anthropology students are assigned a faculty adviser, but many students select a faculty member who has already functioned as a mentor to them. We take pride in these close working relationships between students and faculty in our department, and often these special relationships thrive well past a student’s undergraduate career.
