ProfileMy Creative Inquiry project, People-Place-Sustainability, works with schools and communities in The Commonwealth of Dominica. Clemson students’ studies focus on the theme of the project as these relate to Small Island Developing states, and, specifically, as these have bearing on Dominica. Issues include food security, the needs of youth in developing countries, and community and environmental sustainability. We engage in collaborative, action projects with school children, teachers, community members and leaders, and volunteers on the island. The Clemson students represent a variety of majors; this is one of the strengths of the project. I serve on the Executive Board of the South Carolina Sociological Association. I have been nominated for the Frank Burtner Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising, the Master Teacher Award, and was Clemson’s nominee for the Lynton Award for Service Learning. I have served as advisor to Clemson’s Order of Athena Chapter of Mortar Board National Honor Society. In 2013 our chapter won two national awards.
