Internship Rules

Please read through these rules carefully. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Mrs. Leininger.

  1. Once you have accepted an approved internship, you need to notify Mrs. Leininger, the GC Internship Coordinator, IMMEDIATELY. This should be done via email, but it must be followed up with the completed Intern Placement Form before leaving campus. Please don’t make us track you down.

  2. When you accept an internship offer, do not seek or accept other offers. IMMEDIATELY advise other companies who have given you an offer of your decision not to take their offer.

  3. Start work no later than the first day of classes scheduled for the on-campus semester or Maymester, and work through final exams of that semester or final exams of the second summer session, unless arranged in advance and agreed upon by both your employer and Mrs. Leininger. Intern employment must be a minimum of 15 full-time weeks for a semester, or 12 full-time weeks for summer.

  4. Be sure to enroll in one of the following:
GC 350 – first required internship
GC 450 – second required internship (after GC 406 or GC 440); or
GC 455 – optional internship (either before or after GC 450, but not in place of GC 450)

  5. Also enroll in:
Co-op 201 with your first internship
Co-op 202 with your second internship; or
Co-op 203 with your third internship.

You must pay for 1 hour of GC 350/450/455credit (billed for second summer term for summer interns), along with the $30 for Co-op fee (billed for first summer term for summer interns). When you enroll, you must also pay your fees on time or you will be automatically dropped. Since bills are not sent out, summer interns need to be sure to satisfy their fees for each session.

  6. You MUST go to the Co-op Office, located in 321 Brackett (846/656-3150), to sign up for and attend a brief orientation. In addition to the above form, all interns must fill out a Co-op Information Sheet and turn it into the Co- op office. For fall and spring interns this will push up your registration time for the next semester! Also, you recieve a Co-op Certificate with your diploma, which some companies value.

  7. If you preregistered for other courses for the term you are interning, be sure to DROP all other classes you no longer need to take.

  8. Notify Mrs. Leininger IMMEDIATELY of any change in your employment status.

  9. Near the beginning of your work period, you will receive a mailing from us regarding written work needed (primarily the journal and final abstract). You may also pick up a copy in G-02 now.

  10. Documented performance problems, irregular attendance and/or punctuality mandates a lower course grade. Interns terminated prior to completion of the required number of weeks shall recieve an “F” No exceptions.
