Certificate Program

For students seeking to develop a specialty in an area of study related to family and community studies, an efficient option is to enroll in the Department of Youth, Family and Community Studies' graduate certificate program. This option is available to:

  • Master's and doctoral students in other fields who wish to emphasize a family and community studies area in their work
  • Post-bachelor's students for sub-master's professional development.

The certificate is flexible to meet individual student needs. For example, students might concentrate their studies in courses on human rights or community development. Although the particular program must be approved by the student's advisor, the only requirement is 12 credit hours in the program.

Students may apply for acceptance to the certificate program at any time. To apply, students must submit the following:

  • Resume or CV
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • A 500-word personal statement on the applicant’s career aspirations and goals and their relation to this graduate program.
  • Students for whom English is not their first language are also required to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores.
