Please have your laptops/tablets available all day and know your Clemson University login. 

Location:         Barre Hall, 2108 for those attending in-person

8:15        Informal meet-and-greet with new students and faculty over continental breakfast 

8:45        Welcome and introductions (Mark Small)

9:00       The “Big Picture”:  IFCS program overview (Mark Small)

9:15       Introduction to online coursework and expectations (Marian Turcan and Sue Limber) 

10:15     Break 

10:30    Introduction of faculty & staff: Faculty will give 5-minute overviews of research (facilitated by Sue Limber) 

11:30     Lunch & discussion with several returning graduate students 

Lunch conversation:  “Transitioning to YFCS and successful strategies for thriving individually and academically” (Panel of returning students, facilitated by Matt Flege and Alena Höfrová)

12:45     Walk to the library

1:00        Library research (Peg Tyler, Cooper Library, room 309, bring your laptops) 

2:15        Individual student meetings with Shelli Charles and Arelis Moore

Networking with other first year students

5:30        Pot luck dinner for incoming students, returning students, faculty and staff at the home of Jim McDonell and Shirley McNabb, 123 Pine Ridge Dr., Belton, SC (families welcome!)

9:00        Meet-and-greet with New and Returning Students and Faculty over Continental Breakfast

9:30        Welcome, Introductions, & Overview of the Day (Mark Small and Sue Limber) 

10:30     After the Coursework:  Comprehensive Exams & Dissertation Research (Mark Small and faculty)

11:00     Break

11:30     Research Publications and Presentations: Panel (Suzanne Falconer, Matt Flege, & Laura Bogardus, facilitated by Martie Thompson)

12:20     Presentation of Gary Melton & Robin Kimbrough-Melton Parents Award (Mark Small)

Recognition of Graduate Student Accomplishments During the 2016-2017 Academic Year (Sue Limber)

12:30     Lunch (catered)

1:30        Student Flash Talks by Returning Graduate Students: Round Table Presentations and Discussions (facilitated by Martie Thompson, Bonnie Holaday, Sue Limber, Arelis Moore, and Mark Small. 

3:00        Break and networking

3:30        Searching for and securing a job: Panel of 4 former YFCS students (facilitated by Sue Limber)
