Join us for a very special 5th Annual Judith E. Voelkl Memorial Recreational Therapy Workshop on Friday, April 6, 2018. Clemson University’s Recreational Therapy Club and Program sponsor the event each year in memory of Dr. Judith Voelkl, former faculty member in Clemson’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management.

In celebration of the 5th Year of the JEV Workshop, we are adopting a special theme in conjunction with our renowned keynote speaker Dr. Temple Grandin.

This year our three morning plenary sessions are spotlighting presentations that address neurodiversity, cognitive and mental health conditions/impairments across the life span, and related therapies. These sessions will feature:

    • A primer on the latest developments in neuro-science by Dr. John Griffin, a highly accomplished physiologist, neuroscientist and biologist now serving as dean of undergraduate studies and associate provost at Clemson University.
    • A panel discussion of practitioners, caregivers, and client representatives sharing their experience and expertise from the front lines of neurodiversity issues including the autism spectrum, brain trauma injuries, and gerontology.
    • Our keynote by Temple Grandin, author of The Autistic Mind, will provide a memorable window into the world of Autism.

Following our morning sessions, Dr. Grandin will meet and greet conference participants. Autographed copies of her book will be available for sale.

Lunch will be on your own with the wide variety of Clemson culinary cuisine available for your fuel and fellowship.

Our afternoon breakout sessions will reflect the JEV workshop’s usual variety of topics and opportunities for learning on a variety of RT topics in addition to unique sessions that relate to this years special theme.

Continuing education units for all Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists are pending approval from the American Therapeutic Recreation Association. Educators, professionals, parents, interested citizens and students are welcome to attend all or part of the day’s activities.
