Teaching with Technology Community

The Teaching with Technology Community is a group of more than 80 faculty, students, and IT staff that meets weekly for an hour, currently on Wednesday mornings, 9:00-10:00, in 116 McAdams and via Adobe Connect (http://connect.clemson.edu/r58462250). The group, which began with just four members in 2002 and a focus on laptops in the classroom, explores innovative uses of emerging, new, or existing technology. The process is to visualize how a specific course objective might be met if there were no constraints and then to explore ways technology might make that vision a reality.

Anyone is welcome to join the Teaching with Technology Community. Some members regularly attend the meetings while others attend only when an announced topic is of particular interest. Some stay abreast of what the group is doing through a Blackboard workgroup and listserv.

When appropriate, a spinoff group forms to delve further into a new or existing technology. For example, at various times over the years, subgroups formed around tablet PCs, podcasting and iTunes U, and Second Life.

Thanks to the generosity of some experienced faculty, others are welcome to visit classes where students use laptops, faculty (and in some cases students) use tablets, and/or they use the SCALE-UP teaching approach. Visitors are also welcome to observe a distance/distributed education class to gain insight into using Adobe Connect and other technology helpful in those classes. To register, click on Visit a Class.

At the end of each semester, you are invited to attend the Teaching with Technology Symposium, which features three presentations by faculty members. This event is announced via email when the time is nearing. You can register to attend the symposium in the same way you register for other CRLT and OTEI offerings.
