Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. The CCIT PMO is committed to following the PMI Global Standard methodology to complete these activities.
What does a Project Manager do?
Project Management is accomplished through the use of processes such as initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing. The project team manages the work of the projects, and the work typically involves competing demands for: scope, time, cost, risk and quality as well as stakeholders with differing needs and expectations.
The Project Manager's role is to provide visibility to the many tasks needed to execute the project, to clearly and frequently communicate the status of projects and tasks, and to work closely with the Project Sponsor to make sure the project is delivered as close to the forecasted time, budget & scope as possible.
Project Management Tools and Training
In addition to providing day-to-day operation and support of services and products, the staff of CCIT are engaged in scores of projects to expand and improve Clemson's core teaching and research and public service activities. The PMO provides tools, templates and other resources to projects that are managed non-centrally as C-Level Projects.
The Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for the centralized and coordinated management of CCIT's portfolio of projects that have been approved by Portfolio Management Team (PMT). We are also responsible for status reporting of the entire CCIT Project Portfolio.
Portfolio Management is the centralized management of the portfolio of projects. This includes identifying, prioritizing, authorizing, managing, and controlling projects, programs, and other related work, to achieve specific strategic business objectives.
