Virtual Private Network (VPN)

This service is available to all Clemson University faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

Service Description

VPN (Virtual Private Network): A network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure, such as the Internet, to provide remote offices or individual users with secure access to their organization's network. VPN users can exchange data as if inside an internal network although they are not directly interconnected.

Dial-up: Access to the Internet achieved using a computer modem and standard telephone line.

The Cisco client is supported with Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit, Vista 64-bit, Windows 7* and Mac OS X 10.6 and below.

* The new VPN client must be run from the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer to install properly. Users running 64-bit IE will still need to use the old VPN service or the native Windows VPN client.

There are currently no costs associated with this service offering.

Service Availability

This service is available 24/7 except for scheduled downtimes.

Services that require unavailability will be coordinated and announced through the Change Management Web site at http://www.clemson.edu/ccit/help_support/cm/.

Some servers may not be accessible through this new service at this time. If you have problems accessing a Clemson server, please try our old VPN service temporarily by clicking on the legacy tab at the top of the page http://vpn.clemson.edu.

Getting Help

The CCIT Service Desk is open at the following times during the academic schedule, excluding Clemson University and national holidays, for telephone calls and walk-in traffic. Clemson University operates on an academic calendar.
