Grid Tutorial Workshop
Alina Bejan, Computation Institute, University of Chicago
Introduced the techniques of grid and distributed computing for science and engineering fields, with hands-on training in the use of national grid computing resources. The tutorial presented essential skills that will be needed by researchers in the natural and applied sciences, engineering, and computer science to conduct and support large-scale computation and data analysis in emerging grid and distributed computing environments.
The material focused on enabling the use of national cyberinfrastructure – Open Science Grid and TeraGrid – to perform large-scale computations and data-intensive processing in various fields of research. Participants learned to use grids of thousands of processors and will be able to continue to use these resources for their research after the workshop.

Pre-Conference Condor Tutorial
An overview of Clemson University's campus-wide Condor-based grid provided an opportunity for atten dees to create their own Condor submit machine and then go through a series of exercises to understand the capabilities of high throughput computing. Condor, which is maintained by Clemson Computing and Information Technology (CCIT), connects nearly 1,700 Windows-based PCs in the computer labs, library and other Clemson facilities. By harvesting unused cycles from networked computers, Condor vastly reduces computing time and has already impacted Clemson's research capabilities. Since its inception, Clemson's Condor pool has provided researchers with over 3.4 million CPU hours.
