DCIT CHANGES NAME TO CCIT

Dear Clemson,

As you may have heard, the Division of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT) is changing its name because we are undergoing so many exciting and pivotal changes in the area of computing and information technology. These vital services are the backbone of almost everything we do in our daily lives and they support all of our core missions in education, research and public service. Clemson's IT area is growing rapidly under the direction of Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer, Jim Bottum. He is bringing fresh purpose and renewed commitment to our quest for excellence and a Top 20 ranking through his visionary leadership.

Central to this new vision is the leveraging of all our IT resources, both central and distributed, to support every area of the university, on campus and throughout the state. We are building a new kind of IT organization: one that is inclusive and unified; nimble and responsive. Therefore, the term "Division" no longer applies to our IT environment. Instead, we are fully embracing the One Clemson concept by changing the name from Division of Computing and Information Technology to Clemson Computing and Information Technology (CCIT).

While this represents only a small wording change, the implications are enormous. The process we are undertaking to unify and employ our IT resources into a cohesive operation has transcended our exclusionary past. Clemson Computing and Information Technology is the enabler that will propel us into national stature as a center for world-class research and educational advantage.

You will be hearing more soon about how this IT backbone will support and interlink all aspects of our academic roadmap. For now, be assured that we are making great strides in building the IT infrastructure, services and support necessary to be a Top 20 public university.

Please note that while the transition to the new name, Clemson Computing and Information Technology, is immediate, it may take some time for all traces of the old name to disappear. We appreciate your support as we embrace this change and embark on a new path to excellence.
