11) Q: I have a wireless access point that I bought or brought from home, can I use it in my room?  A: No, wireless access points cannot be used in the dorms, they will cause interference to the new wireless infrastructure.

12) Q: I have been using a wireless access point all semester, can I still do so? When do I need to change this?  A:  No you cannot continue to use your access point.  It must be taken down immediately and removed.  Housing in conjunction with CCIT will perform continuous checks to identify and locate non-clemson or "rogue" access points, as we will see them as causing interference with the wireless infrastructure.  Continuing to use these devices will constitute a violation of computing policy and your housing contract.

13) Q: Will the wireless be as fast as the wired ports in my room?  A: No, wireless by its nature is not currently as fast as the wired connections.  You can expect max speeds to be 54 Mbps of shared connectivity and for most applications you will have all the speed you need.  Other factors such as signal strength and signal quality will determine your effective speeds.

14) Q: Will I be secure over wireless?  A:  Yes.  Tigernet is set up to use the wpa/wpa2 encryption standards and to allow you to connect securely using only your Clemson user name and password.

15) Q: Why does the speed of my connection change as I move around my apartment/dorm? A: Several factors contribute to the level of connection you will make on wireless.  How many walls the signal has to penetrate, what type of construction those walls are (metal, concrete, wood, etc) and your distance from the nearest access point.  As you move throughout your campus home, you will see fluxuations in signal quality and strength which make up your overall connection.  Our goal is to provide adequate coverage to allow your devices to function properly.
