How to Add a Secondary Mailbox.

How to Share your Contacts folder.

This document is aimed at Outlook Exchange users wishing to add a secondary mailbox to their Outlook. These instructions cover both Shared Exchange mailboxes, and personal shared mailboxes. Information on adding a Calendar resource to your Outlook can be found on the Main help page.

-For Outlook 2010 & 2013 for Windows.
-For Outlook 2011 on Mac OS.
-For Apple Mail on Mac OS 10.7+.
-For Outlook Web Access

Important information you should know.

Please note: Mac users (Entourage 2008 EWS, and older versions of Apple mail.) and Linux users (Thunderbird, Evolution) will not be able to open Centrally-Managed Shared Mailboxes. For instructions on how to open a Self-Managed Shared Mailbox, see these instructions [link].

Outlook 2010 & 2013

Step 1Step 1: Open Outlook.

  1. Select the File Tab in the upper left corner of your Outlook.

Step 2Step 2:

  1. Select the Info section of the side bar.
  2. Click the Account Settings Button.
  3. Select the Account Settings... Option.

 

Step 3Step 3:

  1. Click the E-Mail Tab.
  2. Click to select your Exchange account.
  3. Click the Change... button.

Step 4Step 4:

  1. Click the More Settings... Button.

Step 5Step 5:

  1. Click the Advanced Tab.
  2. Click the Add... Button to add a new mailbox.

Step 6Step 6: Optional

  1. Type the address of the mailbox you wish to open.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Click OK, again
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click Finish.

NOTE: An active and enabled mailbox is required. Sendmail, G.Clemson.edu, Gmail, Yahoo, and other mail services will not work.

 

Step 6Step 7 If your prior steps were completed successfully the secondary or shared mailbox will be added below your main mailbox.

Outlook 2011

Step1Step 1: Open Outlook 2011.

  1. Click Outlook
  2. Select Preferences...

Step 2Step 2:

  1. Click the Accounts Button.

Step 3Step 3:

  1. Click the "+" Icon.
  2. Select Exchange.
Step 4

Step 4:

  1. Type E-mail address of the Shared Mailbox you wish to open.
  2. Enter YOUR PERSONAL USERID, prefixed with CAMPUS\.
  3. Enter YOUR PERSONAL PASSWORD.
  4. Un-Check Configure Automatically.
  5. Type: Xmail.clemson.edu
  6. Click Add Account to continue.
Step 5

Step 5: Once the new account has been added, follow these steps to customize it.

  1. Click to Select the new mailbox.
  2. Add an Appropriate description for the new mailbox.
  3. Add an Appropriate Full Name for the Account.
  4. Click the Red button to close and continue.
Step 6

Step 6: With your new mailbox added, follow these steps to see it.

  1. Click the Arrow next to inbox to open the contents of that folder.
  2. Your new shared mailbox will be here with the name you specified in Step 5.
  3. Task Complete.
Apple Mail

Step1Step 1: Open Apple Mail.

  1. Click Mail from the Menu bar.
  2. Select Add Account...

Step2Step 2: Chose a Mail Account to Add.

  1. Click the Radio button for the Exchange option.
  2. Click the Continue Button.

Step3Step 3: Configure Exchange.

  1. Type the Name of the Shared Mailbox.
  2. Type the E-mail Address of the Shared mailbox
  3. Type YOUR personal Password.
  4. Click the Continue button.

Step4Step 4: Configure Exchange Cont.

  1. Type a Description of the Mailbox, (you can use its name here as well).
  2. Type YOUR UserID prefixed with Campus\
  3. Type YOUR Personal password
  4. Type the Exchange servers address, "Xmail.clemson.edu"
  5. Click the Continue button...

Step 5Step 5: A summary of the entered data is provided.

Step 6Step 6: Select the Options you wish to sync.

Step 6Step 7: Use your new Shared Mailbox.

  1. Expand your Inbox folder by clicking the Arrow.
  2. Your Shared mailbox will be located here with the name you provided for it.
Outlook Web Access

Step 5Step 1: Login to Outlook Web Access at https://xmail.clemson.edu with your personal UserID and Password.

Step 5Step 2:

  1. Click your name in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Type the Name of the Shared mailbox you with to open.
  3. Click Open...
