GAE Transition FAQ

How do I back up my data?

You can download or export (depending upon the application or data) your critical data and do one of the following:
  • Save the data on your local drive (laptop or workstation).
  • Store the files on your personal Clemson network storage space.  See the "Shared Storage" section in the Solution Guides.
  • Burn copies of the files to CDs or DVDs.
  • Use one of the many cloud storage services such as DropBox, Amazon Cloud Drive, Microsoft Windows Live SkyDrive, etc.
Remember, it is ALWAYS good to have a backup of your critical data, whether it is in a Google Apps account or on your laptop.  Nothing is more sad than when someone shows up at the support desk with a failed hard drive which contained the only copy of data from a major research project or a graduate thesis.

How do I get access to all the newly available apps from my GAE account?

Good question.  After the transition, Google will offer over 60 additional services and applications from your g.clemson.edu account.  Access to these apps will be a gradual process.  There are legal issues to be resolved between Clemson and Google before we can turn them on.  Each application has its own terms of service and support model.   (Yes, other educational institutions are dealing with the same issues.)

How can I do multiple sign-ins after the transition.

Multiple login will be handled differently after the transition. If you have two or more Google accounts and want to be able to access them simultaneously, you need to select a primary account, then  enable multiple sign-in.  Google has more information available here.

What are "conflicting Google Accounts?"

See Google's video on the topic.

Do you have more information on Google Apps?

Google has an Apps Learning Center that has lots of great information for you.
