New Information Technology Building
Clemson Computing and Information Technology, in partnership with the College of Engineering and Sciences and the School of Computing, has begun the planning and programming phase for a new IT facility on campus that will help bring Clemson University to the forefront of computing and information technology services that provide a gateway to the future of research, education, and public service.  This state of the art facility will enable better IT support to the campus community, and serve to further the goals of the University’s Top 20 Vision.

To be located in the new “Center of Centers” behind the Cooper Library, initial plans call for the new building to provide a central location for important student IT services such as the main help desk, PC and laptop repair, and printing/plotting services.  There will be learning environments, breakout rooms, and innovative work spaces and commons areas for both student and faculty, to provide the latest technology as well as a collegial atmosphere for research and education collaboration and group projects.  Also included will be research space for high-performance computing and cyber-infrastructure technologies such as a “black box” visualization lab and an exploratory data center.  CCIT’s Customer Relations and Learning Technologies group will be housed there, where they will have the latest classroom innovations in distance learning and video conferencing at their disposal.  Other CCIT staff members to be located in the new facility include the CIO and his support staff, the Chief Technology Officer, and the CyberInfrastructure Technologies Integration group.

Currently in the late planning stages, construction of this new facility is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2009, with a target completion date of early 2011.  Questions or comments may be directed to  Jeff Davis (jldvs@clemson.edu) or Nathan Bohlmann (nlb@clemson.edu).
