Roadmap & Baseline

This CCIT Software Roadmap & Hardware Baseline document is a planning tool for faculty, staff and students of Clemson University. It will map the immediate future direction of software versions and hardware platforms, as well as the services and systems that underpin it. It will allow related services to key into each other’s service planning and mutually influence their development. This Roadmap will indicate the current levels of support for software and hardware and set a timetable for discontinued support as well as future support.

Hardware

In 2008, the recommended laptops for new students at Clemson will include mainstream laptops from Dell. For students who need to order early, there will be an active Dell web page in May. However, if there is no urgency, it is strongly recommended that students wait until summer when there will be newer technology offerings available. Please watch this page for updates.

There will also be information about recommended tablet laptops, Apple laptops, and other options posted here.

Software

The IT Contracts and Licensing Group (ITCLG) supports administrative, academic and research software licensing and thus provide quality software in a cost effective manner to the university as a whole.

IT Contracts and Licensing Group objectives are to:

  • Serve as a focal point of software licensing across the university.
  • Maximize the purchasing power of the university through agreements with software vendors.
  • Coordinate license acquisition, tracking, and records management which are not coordinated by normal procurement processes.
  • Evaluate software site-licensing and volume procurement options that meet specified criteria.

If you have any question or problems that relate to Contracts and Licensing,
please email licensing@clemson.edu.
