SSH Guide View The Full Article SSH stands for Secure Shell, and allows encrypted connections to remote servers. SSH is needed to connect to UNIXbased machines on campus, such as Hubcap. Once connected, you can execute commands, upload and download files. Installing SSH If you are on campus, you will find the install for SSH on the S: SHARE drive in the folder SoftwareLicensedSSH Client. If you are offcampus, SSH is available for download at the Software Download. Alternatively, you can bring a blank recordable CD to the Help Desk in Martin Hall, where they can trade your blank CD for the CCIT Application CD, which includes SSH. If you have downloaded SSH or are installing from S: Share you can start the installation by double clicking on the SSHWinSecureShell24.exe file. It will prepare the installation files, and then open the welcome screen. Click Next to continue. Click Yes after reading the license agreement. You cannot install SSH if you do not agree to the license. You are next asked to select a folder to install the program. We will use the default folder, so go ahead and click Next. The next screen asks what program folder in the Start Menu to place the program shortcuts in. Again, we will use the defaults. Click Next. You will then be asked which components you would like installed. The Command Line Tools and Command Line Tools to Path are optional. If you do not wish for these to be installed, remove the check marks beside them. Click Next when finished. SSH will now be installed on your computer.
