Windows 8 drivers are not available for all laptop hardware. CCIT will not support Operating Systems that are not fully supported by the laptop's vendor/manufacturer. To recover from a failed user initiated Windows 8 installation attempt, the CCIT PC Repair Shop will re-install the original vendor supported Operating System at the standard labor rate. At this time, Windows 8 may not be compatible with all campus systems or software and only limited support is available.
You may install any OS you wish on your machine but CCIT does not provide official Linux support. For further information on Linux support at Clemson, please visit our Linux Information Page.
You may go to http://www.clemson.edu/laptop. Click on the Software Installer. You can download and run the installer which will give you a choice of Office, McAfee, Novell, and a number of other software items. Note that you will be asked for your username and password.
There programs are available on the Software Installer (Windows).
These programs are available on the campus S: drive once you've logged into Novell. On Maple and Matlab, look for a .vbs installer:
Matlab: R:\Matlab
Maple: R:\Maple
DataStudio: R:\Data Studio
If you are using Matlab or Maple off campus with a VPN, here are some changes you may need to make to the Windows Firewall.
See this page for details.
A second option is to log in to Novell (right click on the red N in the lower right hand corner and select log in). Go to the R: drive. The various versions of Office are located under R:\Microsoft Office.
Note: both of these options are available to students and staff!
Click here for a page of information about licensing after you graduate. It is recommended that you read this BEFORE you graduate!
If your laptop was purchased before summer 2007, you may call 1-800-ibm-serv and they can direct you on how to order them from Lenovo. If you have a 2007-2008 laptop, there is an option under Programs to create restore disks. Note, when creating them, you MUST use a blank CD for the first disk, but you MAY use blank DVDs for subsequent disks. Also note that these disks will put only Lenovo licensed software on your hard drive and remove everything already on there. They are most commonly used if you sell your laptop or transfer from Clemson.
