Mac PowerPoint

Before You Start

If you have not done so already, read the Plotting FAQ. Any problems encountered while plotting can be handled at Campus Operations.

Preliminaries

Generally speaking, the process of printing to a large-format printer lacks any major complications and can be summarized quickly. One can, however, become quickly lost in the process of document preparation, as the task can seem daunting without the proper foreknowledge.

First of all, understand that several variables exist, which you must manipulate properly in order to effect the desired result.

Document Preparation

The physical properties of a PowerPoint slide acquire acute attention from the user. If PowerPoint is not instructed to scale the artwork to fit the paper when finally printed (discussed later), then an error will not be issued should the page setup define an area larger than the clipping rectangle. Not accounting for margins properly may severely impact your schedule, and one user will not receive priority over another for simple negligence. The information herein is more than adequate for preventing related problems.

Printing Instructions

Note: Complete the Page Setup instructions before you create your document (i.e. adding images, text, designs, etc). Failure to complete this step first may cause objects in your job to become misaligned.

Page Setup

The first step is to configure the Page Setup by going to:

File -> Page Setup

Here enter the dimensions you wish your document to be printed at in the Width and Height text boxes.

page setup

Next, click the Options... button to bring up another Page Setup window.

Here you will expand the Paper Size drop down menu, and select Manage Custom Sizes.

Next press the + button to create a template, and it will be saved for future use, you can rename it to anything you desire.

Now, you must enter in your dimensions again, but notice that you must enter them in reverse. In other words your previous Width will now be your Height and Height will be Width.

Now, click OK to exit the Custom Page Sizes window, and return to the second Page Setup window.

setup2

Notice that the dimensions are the inverse of the first Page Setup window.

Note: Since you saved that template, you can now choose it again from the Paper Size drop down menu, should you need it again.

Click OK to return the the first Page Setup window, and OK again to complete the Page Setup.

Now you can add any images, text, or other items you wish to plot.
